Getting to school with steady adults and clear updates
Velgo is a school transport operator being built for the part of the day that nobody sees: the hour before school and the hour after it. We are preparing to run SEND and private-hire journeys for families, schools and councils — with the same driver where we can, an office that answers, and updates that arrive before you have to ask for them. We are not carrying passengers yet. This is what we are building, and how to reach us before we do.

Office-led routes for council SEND and school journeys, with drivers and, where the route needs one, a passenger assistant. First names only on screen, and council reporting built from counts.

Booked ahead or on demand, with the fare shown before you travel rather than at the end. A wheelchair-accessible vehicle costs the same as any other class.

How it works
A route is agreed with the adults who need to agree it — the family, the school, and the council team where one is commissioning — before anyone travels. From then on the office holds the route. The driver and, where the route calls for one, the passenger assistant get the information that journey needs and nothing more. Changes go through the office rather than through a group chat, so the school is not piecing the day together from three different messages. When something moves, the people affected hear it from one place.
For families
Handing your child to a driver takes trust that has to be earned before the first morning, not after it. So the guardian app shows you the journey your child is actually on: that it has started, that it is running, that it has arrived. It does not send you a running commentary, and it does not put your child's details into a message that could be forwarded. If something changes, you hear it from the office, and there is a person on the other end of the question.
For councils
Commissioning teams need to see that a service is running without reading about individual children to find out. Velgo reports in counts — routes running, journeys completed, changes made, issues raised — with the detail available to the people entitled to see it and to nobody else. Authorised council users get a live view of the routes they commission. It is built to be inspected: access is logged, and we can show you who opened what.

Trust and privacy by design
Children's privacy is a design decision, not a policy paragraph. Where a name is needed to run a journey, our screens carry a first name only. Push notifications carry no child details at all. Council reporting is built around counts rather than case stories. Every access to a child record is audited. These are properties of the software, which is why we can describe them plainly instead of promising them.
